Band You Should Check Out: The Mhurs

There's nothing like discovering a band in which after hearing one song you want to track down and listen to everything else they have put out. The Mhurs is a great example of one of those bands. Although they have been together for over 4 years, they only have a handful of songs to their name. Rumor has it that they are working on a debut album to be released sometime this year.

I fell in love with The Mhurs as soon as I heard “I’m Sorry Forever”. It opens with an eery guitar line and the slightest of bass touches hinting at what’s to follow: an absolutely immense main riff with bluesy verses and a big, filthy guitar solo for a bridge that could have been ripped straight from the fingers of Jack White.

Check it out below and let me know what you think.

Scenes From the Suburbs

Director Spike Jonze teams up with Arcade Fire to create a thirty-minute short film inspired by their critically acclaimed album, The Suburbs, and its themes of war and coming of age in suburbia. Co-written by Jonze & Arcade Fire’s Win Butler & Will Butler, this companion piece to the album follows the narrator, living in a suburban dystopia, trying to piece together fragmented memories from when he was a teenager, and his experiences with his friends as they grow apart. –SXSW

Here is the trailer

You can watch below for now, could get taken down any day though.

Band You Should Check Out: The Steelwells

The Steelwells have had a steady rise in the California music scene, gathering a ever growing army of loyal and dedicated fans. Comparisons in the music press to the Beach boys and Wilco sit comfortably with the band, who in such a short space of time seem to have carved out their own niche in an otherwise fickle – and at times elitist – California music scene.- Ian P

Band You Should Check Out: Girl Unit

With only one official release and a smattering of remixes and other tracks to his name, Girl Unit nonetheless displays a keen ear for US street sounds, whether it be ghettotech and juke or radio-ready hip-hop and R&B. His track "Wut" has been blowing up all over the internet lately and I thought I'd share it with all of you. Let me know what you think.
