Band You Should Check Out: Lucero
Lucero is probably the closest thing to country music that I enjoy. They play emotionally driven southern rock that anyone could relate to. I've had the chance to see them twice and both times were great. If your going through a tough time or just want some laid back drinking music, then you might enjoy this.

Rappers You Should Check Out: Aesop Rock
Aesop Rock is probably my favorite rappers right now. His style has been criticized as stream of conscious bullshit, but I find it brilliant. His lyrics for one album could probably fill a small book, and this dude must have a dictionary and thesaurus next to him as he's writing. I was lucky enough to meet this guy after a show he played, and he seems like a stand up guy. Anyway check out the song and let me know what you think.

WTF Movie of the Week: Dogtooth
Sorry for the lack of posting, been kind of busy lately.
Three teenagers are confined to an isolated country estate that could very well be on another planet. Their father has created a system that keeps the teens in a constant battle for perfection and obedience of their parents as well as instilling fears in them of the outside world.
This film is weird in the sense that you will laugh at a scene, only to think about why you laughed and feel guilty and disturbed by it. Even though its kind of a slow film, its surprisingly compelling. The sex scenes are a tad over the top, but other than that I thought it was a well made film.

Band You Should Check Out: Smith Westerns
Chicago's Smith Westerns are yet another band singing urgent, ramshackle garage songs about teenage frustrations and longings- Tom Breihan
Personally I disliked their first album, but was really surprised by how much they improved on their second album. They have a really uplifting and infectious sound. Let me know what you guys think.

Band You Should Check Out: Corte Real
Imagine The Libertines mixed with Bob Dylan. Or a French version of The Walkmen. Sounds pretty magical, doesn’t it? Well guess what, this is what Corte Real brings to the table. With a voice that channels the best of Dylan. - We All Want Someone To Shout For

WTF Movie of the Week: Eraserhead
Eraserhead, which is directed by David Lynch, is centered around the character Henry Spencer as he tries to survive his industrial environment, his angry girlfriend, and the unbearable screams of his newly born mutant child.
Instead of including the trailer, I decided a short clip from the movie would do this film better justice.
If after that scene you'd like to check out the rest of the movie, you can find it here.

Band You Should Check Out: Bag Raiders
Bag Raiders are an electro duo formed in 2006 in Sydney, Australia, consisting of DJs Chris Stracey and Jack Glass. The duo are well known for their remixes and live shows. Think a mix between Justice and Daft Punk.

WTF Movie of the Week: Holy Mountain
A Christlike figure wanders through bizarre, grotesque scenarios filled with religious and sacrilegious imagery. He meets a mystical guide who introduces him to seven wealthy and powerful individuals, each representing a planet in the solar system. These seven, along with the protagonist, the guide and the guide's assistant, divest themselves of their worldly goods and form a group of nine who will seek out the Holy Mountain, in order to displace the gods who live there and become immortal. - Marty Cassady
This is probably the trippiest and most ridiculous movie I have ever seen. You could also spend hours on end interpreting all the religious and ancient symbolism in this film. For all you stoners out there, this is entertainment gold.
P.S. the trailer is not exactly safe for work. Couldn't find a video for it online, but i'm sure if you dig around a little you could.

Band You Should Check Out: Fashawn
Ok well this isn't really a band exactly, but rather a pretty decent rapper. Fashawn is an American underground rapper from Fresno, California. His debut album, Boy Meet World, came out a few years ago and I really enjoyed it. Let me know what you think.

Let the Right One In
I just saw this recently and thought it was pretty decent. There's an American remake that came out not to long ago called Let Me In. As far as vampire movies go, this is on of the best I've seen in years.
If you wanna watch it, check it out here.

Band You Should Check Out: 1,2,3
1,2,3 is Nic Snyder, Josh Sickels, and new addition Derrick White all hailing from Pittsburgh, PA. Their 70s-tinged rock recalls the best sounds of the pre-punk era, like Bolan bopping with Big Star. I have a feeling that this band is going to make it big someday. Their debut album is supposed to come out this year. Check out one of their songs below.

Donald Glover From "The Community" is Also a Rapper
Under the moniker of Childish Gambino, Glover makes clever hip hop music with an added lyrical wit and humor. Donald Glover first started getting attention with the sketch-comedy troupe Derrick Comedy. Since then, he’s served as a main-cast member on NBC’s Community and writer for 30 Rock.
I'm posting this cause I found it hard to believe this comedian could actually be a respectable rapper too. Check out one of his songs below and let me know what you think.
Tyler Stout’s Kill Bill Poster

WTF Movie of the Week: Gummo
Xenia, Ohio, is a small poor and boring city that never fully recovered after a tornado in the 1970s. The film follows the lives of various oddball and somewhat disturbing backwater characters, in this disturbing coming of age film.
You can watch the full movie here.

Design by Humans
So I really don't consider myself to have any true sense of fashion or style, but I recently found this website that i thought was pretty cool. Its called Design by Humans, and its a site where any artist can submit a design for everyone to vote on. The design for the month that gets the most votes gets their design put on shirts and sold for a pretty reasonable price. Here's just a taste of the designs they sell. Go here for the rest.
Superjail Season 2 Kicks Off Today
Superjail! is characterized by its psychedelic shifts in setting and plot and extreme graphic violence, which give the series a TV-MA V rating. These elements are depicted through highly elaborate animated sequences, which have been described as "baroque and complicated and hard to take in at a single viewing"

Band You Should Check Out: Oberhofer
Oberhofer’s songs are pattern-happy, and its two guitarists fan out: strumming high and low in syncopation, picking staggered single notes for Minimalistic interweave, switching between 4/4 and waltz, unveiling the clockwork within their songs while the music hurtles along anyway. Brad Oberhofer, transplanted from Tacoma, Wash., to Brooklyn, sings about longings and breakups with self-aware amusement, sometimes yelping toward falsetto, but there’s no second-guessing or self-consciousness about the band’s passion for pop-song structure, both concise and expanded. -Jon Pareles
